Each year, the University of Missouri provides a forum to highlight original research and educational innovations by undergraduate, medical, nursing and health professions students, as well as predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees working with faculty in the schools of medicine, nursing, and health professions.

2023 Health Sciences Research Day

The 2025 Health Sciences Research Day will be held on November 14, 2025. Organized and sponsored by the MU School of Medicine Research Council, Health Sciences Research Day also partners with the MU School of Medicine, MU Sinclair School of Nursing.

This day-long symposium – filled with poster presentations – awards prizes to the three best presentations in each of several student categories. Special Deans’ Awards recognize the most outstanding research conducted by trainees from the schools of nursing and medicine.

Applicants interested in being considered for School of Medicine Dean’s Award will be required to submit, as part of their application, additional information including a short statement highlighting the abstract’s significance, innovation and overall impact, and a letter of support from their faculty mentor. Eligibility and documentation requirements are included in the Health Sciences Research Day 2025 Call for Abstracts for Poster Presentations.

Undergraduate, medical and nursing students, as well as predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees working with faculty in the schools of medicine and nursing are invited to present results of their research. Only one poster may be presented by those listed as the first author.

A separate category for research not being presented by a student/trainee is also available. Faculty members and/or research technicians or staff working under the supervision of a faculty member are eligible to present no more than one poster per laboratory. These posters will not be judged and are not eligible for awards.

An upcoming issue of Missouri Health, an open-access journal published by the University of Missouri School of Medicine, will feature collected abstracts from the 2025 HSRD. Applicants who wish to have their HSRD abstracts appear in this journal will have the opportunity, when submitting their HSRD application, to grant the license and allow publication in the journal.
