The goal of the University of Missouri Urology Residency Program is to train outstanding urologic surgeons and clinicians.

Expert training covering a broad urologic curriculum will provide the foundation to pursue a variety of career options. An environment of creative thought and innovation is encouraged through conferences, clinical experience and research endeavors. Residents will also be competent in professional behavior, communication and hospital/office staff interaction.

PGY-1

  • Seven four-week blocks of general surgery training, including pediatric surgery, critical care, University or VA general surgery, and vascular surgery
  • Six four-week blocks of University Urology
  • Primary responsibilities on the Urology service include rounding with the chief and nurse practitioner each morning
  • Primary call during the weekdays for Urology inpatients
  • One day of weekend primary call in the second half of the year
  • Most of the first year is clinical with some opportunity for procedures including cystoscopy, biopsy, vasectomy, Gomco circumcisions, bedside robotic cases

PGY-2

  • Six months of VA Urology and six months of University Urology
  • Primary responsibilities at the VA include procedure clinic, OR cases, and clinic
  • Primary responsibilities at the University include are approximately 2/3 clinical and 1/3 OR cases
  • Primary call during weeknights and one weekend per month (total 10 days/month)

PGY-3

  • Three months of research, three months of VA and six months of University service
  • Primary responsibilities during research time include robotic bedside assistance on Thursdays plus case coverage when other residents are on vacations, and Wednesday morning didactics
  • Primary responsibilities at the University are approximately 1/3 clinical and 2/3 OR cases
  • Primary call during weeknights and one weekend per month (total 5 days/month)

PGY-4

  • Three months of research, three months of VA, and six months of University service
  • Primary responsibilities during research time include robotic bedside assistance on Thursdays plus case coverage when other residents are on vacation, and Wednesday morning didactics
  • Primary responsibilities at the University are approximately OR cases and running the consult service
  • Secondary call during weeknights and one weekend per month (1 week/month)

PGY-5

  • Six months of University Chief and six months of VA Chief
  • Primary responsibilities at VA are running the service, OR cases, clinic
  • Primary responsibilities at the University are running the service (clinically, educationally, and resident schedules) and OR cases
  • Secondary call during weeknights and one weekend per month (1 week/month)
