Kenter elected to position of director-elect of ABOS

Keith Kenter, MD, professor in the University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, was recently elected to the position of Director-Elect of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). Kenter’s newly appointed election is a 10-year commitment and he began serving on October 1, 2025.

The ABOS was founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, independent organization to serve the best interests of the public and the medical profession. These interests are achieved through the ABOS by establishing standards for the education of orthopaedic surgeons.

Boasting more than 25 years of experience diagnosing and treating sports injuries, Kenter specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine. He currently serves as the director of the Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship Program at Mizzou.

Kenter has been a longtime ABOS volunteer, including writing examination questions and serving as an oral examiner. Additionally, he has served on the editorial board and contributed as a reviewer for several prominent orthopaedic surgery journals.

Kenter completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery and general surgery from Duke University Medical Center and Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction from the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He holds a Doctor of Medicine from the Mizzou School of Medicine.
