Dear Colleagues,

As we strive to advance health care and scientific discoveries, one of our most important responsibilities is supporting the next generation of scientists who will lead us to the innovations of tomorrow. While we work hard to educate and mentor these future scientific scholars, it’s equally important to take time to relax, connect with one another and celebrate our shared community.

On June 14, the Translational Biosciences Graduate Student Association (TBS GSA) hosted their annual End of Year Celebration at Finger Lakes Park here in Columbia. This event was a wonderful example of our commitment to both professional and personal growth. About 40 students, faculty, staff and family members gathered for a day of fun, food and fellowship.

Attendees enjoyed kayaking and canoeing, hiking, beach volleyball and board games, along with a delicious picnic catered by El Moe’s from the Bond Life Sciences Center. It was a perfect way to celebrate the completion of another academic year and to recharge before the important work ahead.

Thank you to the TBS GSA leadership for organizing such a meaningful event and thank you to all of you who continue to support and inspire our students in and out of the classroom and lab. Moments like these remind us that our greatest discoveries happen when we work—and play—together as a community.

Sincerely,
