Schweser Presents Key Study Findings at Annual Society Meeting

Kyle Schweser, MD, orthopaedic surgeon with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

Kyle Schweser, MD, orthopaedic surgeon with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, presented research showing allografts as a viable option for defects in ankle joints at the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society’s Annual Meeting this year. The conference was held from Sept. 20-23 in Louisville, KY.

The study, led by Schweser and his team, found that high chondrocyte viability allografts showed higher success rates for treating symptomatic bipolar osteochondral defects in ankle joints. Results from the study showed improvement in patient-reported outcomes pain scores, and physical function and mobility scores. In addition, the research team found that adherence to postoperative protocols played a factor in patient outcomes.
