Zweig becomes the third winner from the Mizzou School of Medicine to win the prestigious award. He joins Jack Colwill, MD, professor emeritus and former chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and Al Berg, MD, 1977 Family Medicine residency graduate.

Zweig joined the Department of Family and Community Medicine faculty in 1984. He later served as the Jack and Winifred Colwill department chair from 2008 to 2019. A year later, Zweig was named the Hugh E. and Sarah D. Stephenson Dean of the School of Medicine. Over his three years of leadership, faculty doubled research awards to the medical school, and 12 new department chairs were appointed.

Outside his achievements and impact at the Mizzou School of Medicine, Zweig is a family medicine physician with additional certifications in geriatric medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. He also co-leads the Physician Leadership Development Academy at Mizzou and is a faculty mentor in the Association of Departments of Family Medicine leadership development program.
